Transport in Portugal is varied. Continental Portugal has four international airports located near Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Beja. The national railway system is provided by Comboios de Portugal. The largest seaports are located in Leixoes, Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Lisbon, Setubal, Sines and Faro.
Portugal's two largest areas have metro: Lisbon Metro and Metro Transportes do Sul in the Lisbon metropolitan area, and Porto Metro in the Porto metropolitan area. All major cities and towns have their own local urban transport network.
There are many airports in Portugal. Currently, the most important are Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Funchal in Madeira and Ponta Delgada in the Azores. The national airline is TAP Air Portugal.
Metro Lisbon

Requires holding an electronic travel card - Viva Viagem or Navegante - loaded with a valid ticket.
There are two types of tickets to travel on the Metro:

Bank card for Single trip

- This ticket is loaded onto a "Navegante Ocasional" card that is only valid for one person. A reusable "Navegante Ocasional" card is valid for a year and costs just 0.50 EUR, plus the price of your pass or ticket.
- Available from any Lisbon urban train ticket offices or ticket vending machines.
- Keep your receipt as proof of purchase as long as the ticket or pass is still valid.
Valid on Lisbon urban trains on the Sintra/Azambuja, Cascais and Sado lines for 24 hours after the first validation on any of the means of transport that are included. On CP, the last 30 minutes of the validity only let you leave the stations, not enter them. The pass must be validated on all CP, Carris and Lisbon Metro journeys.

Metro rules:
- It is mandatory to validate your ticket at the entrance and exit of the station: touch it and touch it.
- Single trips are valid for three hours from the moment of validation at the entrance, provided that you do not cross the exit corridor.
Traveling with children:
- Children under 4 years old are entitled to free travel;
- Between 4 and 12 years old, all children with a Navegante card can travel free of charge on the networks of transport operators within the Lisbon metropolitan area.
Passengers with reduced mobility should check the metro network map in advance to ensure that both departure and arrival stations are fully accessible.
A maximum of 2 bicycles are allowed in a single metro car and only if there is no large crowd of passengers.
It is also allowed to transport scooters, roller skates, hoverboards, unicycles, skates or any other similar soft transport on the metro. However, riding and/or parking these soft transport on the metro is strictly prohibited.
Your pet may travel with you on the train in appropriate carriers to ensure that it does not disturb, disturb or frighten other passengers.
For safety reasons, it is not permitted to stand between the edge of the platform and the yellow stripe on the floor.

Validity
Allows travel on the entire metro network for 1 hour after the first validation. Validation is mandatory at the beginning of each trip.

Porto Card
The Porto Card is a special pass for tourists who visit Porto for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days.
The card offers free access or discounts on various products, services and public transport.

CP Services: Porto urban trains
The public transport version allows unlimited use of the following operators as long as the card is valid:
- Porto urban trains (between Porto São Bento «» Paredes, Porto São Bento «» Paramos, Porto São Bento «» Vila das Aves and Porto São Bento «» Lousado). Passengers with a valid Porto Card who wish to travel outside this route can purchase the Tourist Ticket from CP ticket offices, benefiting from a 10% discount;
- Porto metro (on all lines throughout the network);
- STCP buses (on all lines throughout the network).
All Porto Card modalities offer:
- Free entry to 5 museums;
- 50% off admission to 10 museums and monuments,
- 20% off admission to SEA LIFE;
- 20% off cruises on the Douro;
- Up to 25% off panoramic buses;
- Up to 15% off in restaurants;
- Up to 20% off Port wine cellars, shops, theme centres, nightlife and shows;
- Up to 20 off Douro and Minho tours, bike and car hire. Does not include trams.

The Green Rail Pass is a new transport pass, valid on CP, for residents in Portugal. The €20 pass can be purchased any day of the month and is valid for 30 consecutive days.This pass is loaded onto the CP Card for period you want.

If you are a pensioner or retiree, travel by train at half price. The Gold Card may be requested by retired customers or pensioners, regardless of age, whose household monthly income (total income of people living together) does not exceed the national minimum wage.
Buy your ticket 5, 8 or more days in advance and get discounts of up to 65%. If you buy Alfa Pendular and Intercidades tickets at least 5 days in advance, you enjoy discounts of up to 56%. If you buy 8 or more days in advance, these discounts can be as much as 65%. If you plan your trip earlier, you pay less!
Combat veterans are exempt from paying for travel passes
In accordance with the measures defined in the Veterans' Charter, travel passes for public transport are provided free of charge to all veterans who have a former combatant's certificate, as well as widows and widowers of a former veteran.

Take the kids on a train journey for half the price.
Children up to three years old (inclusive), when accompanied by an adult, are entitled to travel free of charge, provided that they do not occupy a seat.
If they are between 4 and 12 years old inclusive, they benefit from a 50% reduction on the normal fare (half ticket), with the right to a separate seat.
On the international Celta service, the discount is 40%.

Porto Santo line company
The Social Mobility Allowance (SSM) is granted to citizens residing in the Madeira Archipelago, for travelling between Madeira and Porto Santo, by the Regional Government of Madeira, through the SIMplifica portal.
To benefit from the social mobility allowance, and thus enjoy the inherent discount, you must go to the SIMplifica portal, log in and choose the service "Mobility" then "Porto Santo mobility allowance - Residency Certification". If you are not yet registered at the SIMplifica portal, you must register and then choose the service "Mobility" then "Porto Santo mobility allowance - Residency Certification".
