Metro in Budapest
The only city with an underground railway system is Budapest with its Metro.
In Budapest there is also a suburban rail service in and around the city, operated under the name HÉV.
From 1 March 2024, free travel on public transport will be extended for children under 14 years of age and for persons aged 65 and over, including non-Hungarians.

Funicular in Budapest
The Buda Castle Funicular has been a link between the riverbank of the Danube and Buda Castle since 1870. The special railway runs on a 95-metre-long track surmounting a gradient of 50 metres while affording riders captivating views of the city below. The Funicular was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

- The lower station of the Funicular is located at Clark Ádám tér, on the Buda side of the Chain Bridge, next to the Tunnel.
- The upper station is situated at Szent György tér, between Buda Castle and the Presidential Palace (Alexander Palace).
- The lower station is accessible by buses 16 and 105 as well as by trams 19 and 41, while the upper station can be approached by buses 16, 16A and 116.

- All year round, every day: 08:00-22:00 (ticket office closes at 21:50)
- The Buda Castle Funicular departs every 5-10 minutes, on passenger demand.
- Service suspended: On Mondays on odd weeks, the Buda Castle Funicular is not in service during maintenance works, except if these days fall on a nonworking day or public holiday. In such cases, maintenance works are carried out on the first working day after the nonworking day or public holiday.

- persons who behave inappropriately
- who wish to transport an object not qualified as hand-luggage
- who is not capable for transporting their hand-luggage according to the operator’s judgment
- who wish to board with ice-cream, an opened bottle or can or cup of drink
- who does not have a ticket or other travel permit.

FERRY LINE D14
Timetable
Ferry line D14 links Districts 21 and 23 across the Danube. The ferry operates between Csepel-Királyerdő and Soroksár, Molnár-sziget piers.
Fares
Passengers require a full-fare ferry ticket (170 HUF), a pupil ferry ticket (110 HUF) or a pensioner ferry ticket (110 HUF).
In addition to the ferry tickets listed above, the below daily travelcards and Budapest-passes are also also accepted:
- Budapest-travelcards (Budapest 24-hour, 72-hour travelcards, Budapest 24-hour group travelcard);
- pupil group travelcard, event related ticket;
- Budapest-passes (all passes with the term “Budapest-pass” in their name);
Ferry tickets are available in advance at BKK customer service points ad ticket offices, or from the crew on site.
Budapest Cards are accepted for the ferry service during the card’s validity period.
Passengers who are eligible for free local public transport can travel by ferry for free. Discounted passes (student, pensioner, parent with small child) are also valid for the ferry service.
Ferry tickets (along with travelcards, passes and Budapest Cards) entitle a single passenger to use the ferry. Bicycles, motorcycles (and in the same category: trailer, horse, quad), cars, trucks (lorries) or buses require separate dedicated ferry tickets.
Bicycles and dogs can be taken on board. The bike requires a separate ferry ticket or a bicycle pass, while dogs require a separate full-price ferry ticket, a Budapest-travelcard or monthly dog pass. For everything else, the rules on transporting dogs must be respected.
