PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN CYPRUS IS REPRESENTED ONLY BY BUSES

Bus routes operate in the districts:  Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Famagusta - area under the control of the Cyprus Republic.

Prices for travel subscriptions are different in these districts. Although it is possible to purchase a subscription that is valid throughout the Republic of Cyprus. This tariff is called PANCYPRIAN.

TRAVEL DOCUMENT ON BUSES IN CYPRUS

- Single ticket  is purchased from the bus driver

- Paper Smart Card for multiple trips
The Paper Smart Card with 4 trips, 2 days or 7days,  is issued to all local Points of Sales. It is valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Is valid for all Districts in Cyprus (Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta area under the control of the Cyprus Republic), and is valid only for the service offered in the district that is purchased for.No refund is given for non-use of Tickets.

- Non Personalised Plastic Smart Card Is issued at local points of sale for a fee of €5.00. It is not available for people entitled to discounts. If you are eligible for discounts, you must purchase a personal travel card. Non Personalised Plastic Smart Card Can be charged with:
Period Tickets for 7-days or 30-days, valid from the date of the first check in, which must be within 6 months of the date of purchase. Period Tickets are valid all days and all hours of service. The maximum amount that can be loaded onto this Smart Card is 50 EUR. Each check-in deducts 1.80 EUR from the card. You can make one transfer within 60 minutes without additional payment. The service is not valid if you are returning along the same route. This card can be used to pay for the simultaneous travel of several passengers at your discretion. The number of passengers is equal to the number of check-ins or cancellations. In case of loss of the Smart Card, card malfunction or non-use of funds, the previously paid number of trips will not be restored.

- Personal Smart card      Personalised Plastic Smart Card is issued at local points of sale for a fee of €5.00 and it is also available for people entitled to discounts. It is necessary that you present a proof of ID. Your picture is taken and printed on the card. Can be charged with period Tickets for 7-days, 30-days or 365-days. Period tickets are valid from the date of the first check in/cancellation, which must be within 6 months of the date of purchase.
Period Tickets are valid all days and all hours of service. The maximum amount that can be loaded onto this Smart Card is 50 EUR. maximum money held €50. Each check-in deducts 1.80 EUR from the card. You can make one transfer within 60 minutes without additional payment. The service is not valid if you are returning along the same route. This card can be used to pay for the simultaneous travel of several passengers at your discretion. The number of passengers is equal to the number of check-ins or cancellations. In case of loss of the Smart Card, card malfunction or non-use of funds, the previously paid number of trips will not be restored.

- Student Travel discount Card       The Student Smart Card is required for students to travel on public transport in Cyprus at a discount. The discount is 50% of the regular fare. Each district in Cyprus has its own tariffs. There are also subscriptions that are valid throughout Cyprus and valid on all bus routes of Intercity Buses Cyprus. This tariff is called PANCYPRIAN.

The student Smart Card may be the Motion Discount Personalized Smart Card and BeeMate student Smart Card.

Students present one of the 4 following supporting documents:
1) a student ID card from an approved University in Cyprus (see a list of these approved Universities below),
or 2) a student ID card from an approved School of Higher Education in Cyprus (see a list of these approved Schools below),
or 3) a student ID card from a University / Collage / School of Higher Education that is linked to the European Youth Card (for students) which has been issued either by the Cyprus Youth Organization or by a competent organization of another European state.
or 4) a European Youth Card (for students) which has been issued either by the Cyprus Youth Organization or by a competent organization of another European state.

TICKET TYPES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUSES IN CYPRUS 

Motion smart cards must be used for all ticket types. The exception is the single ticket, which can be purchased from the bus driver for cash.

Single: valid for a single journey within a city and city suburbs from 04:00 until 21:00.

Night - Single: valid for a single journey within a city and city suburbs from 21:00 until 04:00.

Daily: valid for a single day to be used in journeys within a city and city suburbs from 04:00 until 21:00.

Weekly: valid for 7 days from 04:00 until 21:00 to be used in journeys within a city and city suburbs.

Monthly: valid for a month to be used in journeys within a city and city suburbs.

Intercity Daily: valid for all intercity and city bus routes for one day.

** The above fares include the luggage carriage for passengers.
*** University students of Cyprus Institutions are allowed 50% discount by showing their Student cards. Owners of Cypriot social card are allowed 50% discount.
**** For Evening Routes, from 21:00 until 04:00, "Monthly Ticket" and "Yearly Ticket" are valid, but "Daily Ticket" and "Weekly Ticket" are not valid

The following categories are travelling FREE at all times: 

  • Children up to 6 years old,
  •  Pupils presenting their Pupil card, 
  • Soldiers presenting their Cyprus Military card

All bus routes in the Nicosia area operate from three bus stations in Nicosia: Alampla, Tamasos and West Area.

TICKET FARES IN THE NICOSIA DISTRICT 

DISTRICT PAPHOS

Free & Discounted Travel

Passengers in the following categories can travel free at all times:

  1. Children up to and including 5 years old.

  2. Soldiers presenting their Cyprus Military Card.

  3. Contract soldiers with the presentation of their Military Identity Card to the driver.

  4. Low income pensioners on presentation of their low income beneficiary card.

  5. People in a wheelchair, blind people and their companion assistants.

  6. Holders of the European Disability Card. (In the case the disabled person has an assistant, then the European Disability Card will bear the mark "A" (assistant). The accompanying person will not have a separate card but is covered by the card of the disabled person.

  7. Students of Primary and Elementary School, only when using the school routes.

50% discount on ticket prices is offered to:

  1. University students of recognised Cyprus Universities by showing their student card.
  2. Holders of European Youth Card (students).

  3. Children up to 12 years old.

  4. Pupils from 13-18 years old by showing their identity card or pupil identity card.

  5. Owners of Cypriot social card.

The above fares include the luggage carriage for passengers.

The above fares include VAT.

Please note: Those passengers who are entitled to a 50% discount or a reduced monthly or weekly fare for the validation of the ticket must always present the specific document or card in their name which proves they are the holder and entitled to the reduced tariff. This must be the original card or document. Photocopies and photos taken on phones are not accepted.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT TICKETS

To purchase a university student ticket, students must present a valid student card.

No other forms of identification will be accepted.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED FROM THE FOLLOWING UNIVERSITIES:

  1. University of Cyprus
  2. Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK)
  3. Open University of Cyprus
  4. European University Cyprus
  5. Frederick University
  6. Neapolis University
  7. University of Central Lancashire- Cyprus (UCLAN)
  8. University of Nicosia

All other university students must contact the Cyprus Youth Organisation to obtain the European Youth Card – Student.


DISTRICT FAMAGUSTA 

Tickets on buses are sold in cash only. Debit or credit cards are not accepted on buses. Motion Smart cards are accepted on buses.
